NATIONAL CHILLI AWARDS 2026: Silver Medal

Nippy Sweetie - one of those perfect Scots slang phrases that manages to be affectionate and yet cutting too. Someone (usually a woman, but not always) who seems superficially nice but can be a bit... nippy (cutting or a bit irritable). It's not really a cruel phrase, but not really a compliment either... 'She can be a right nippy sweetie sometimes, but we love her.'

But OUR Nippy Sweetie, well that's a different matter. It's sweet, and, well, it's a bit nippy too. A light, pineappley, herby sort of a mashup between a mild-medium hot sauce and a dressing. The 'nippiness' comes from a moderate helping of habaneros, plus some pink peppercorns, which add a little heat too.

We're thinking fish tacos, fried chicken or halloumi, drizzle it through couscous and roasted veg, or through a salad - anywhere you want a wee bit of zing and a wee bit of pineapple freshness. It's also amazing with gammon steaks, barbecued food, and even in a stir-fry with some soy sauce.

It's vegan and dairy-free as well.
